DIY! Tufted Bench made out of old End Table

I haven't done a DIY Home Decor post yet, but there's a first for everything! Now, first things first I need you guys to know I'm a Pinterest lover, and since my boyfriend and I moved in together, we try to do a crafty project for the house at least once a week. So this was my choice!

Supplies needed:
-End Table
-Fabric
-Staple Gun
-Hammer
-Nails
-Foam
-Paint (if needed)

I had this end table from our previous roommate, and it was in great shape, we just didn't need it.

I purchased a primer and cheap black spray paint from Wal Mart. It was about $5 total for both.

The left leg in the picture above is with one coat of the primer. As you can see it is a flat black which had great coverage. The right leg has the gloss black spray paint with one coat just for the shine. All together it was two coats of paint, and I was very pleased with the outcome.

This is the table fully painted with the gloss. I'm very pleased with the final product with just two coats.

I purchased my foam from Wal Mart as well for $15. I chose this particular kind so I could make my own size. This was 1" thick, so I used two layers.

I purchased one yard of fabric, which was on sale for $1, score!

This isn't a very good picture, and I'm sorry for that. What I did was after the foam was cut to size (I used a box cutter which worked out very well) I laided out the fabric on the floor with the two layers of foam. I then flipped the table over on top and got down to business.

I purchased 3" nails for $2, which turned out to be way too thick (whoops), but they did the job in the end. I wanted nails that had a large head so that they would hold the fabric down with no problems. I also had to purchase a staple gun, but it will come in handy for another project.

I then pulled the edges of the fabric and stapled to the bottom edge of the table. Please note, if your fabric is too tight, creating the tufted look will become an issue. Leave some room for the fabric to be pulled down in the necessary spots.

After stabling the edges I flipped it back over and started measuring where I would place my nails.

I tried to be as precise as possible and just nailed through the foam and into the wood. My nails were extremely too long, so once they were all in I flipped the bench back over and hammered them down so no one would get hurt.

And done! I built this to go in my "dressing room" as a little stool/bench to be used when getting ready. Overall I am so pleased with the turnout of my project.

In total, this cost me about $40, but please note the star gun was $15. In my opinion, a pretty cheap success story! It also only took me about 8 hours, including paint dry time. I had a lot of fun doing it and I'm so happy with the outcome.

...and I only got one boo boo. Why yes, that is an Operation Band Aid.

Personal Planner Setup

I have been using a planner for as long as I can remember. My little OCD self needs something to keep me grounded and on track. About 3 years ago I discovered Erin Condren as well as the planner community on social media (if you are a planner person check them out, it is such a positive and supportive group of people). If you're not familiar, the Erin Condren Life Planner is an A5 size planner (7" by 9") and is a thick planner. For me, this type of planner is not convenient for every day use so this planner stays at home on my desk and is used mostly for my creative side, not functionality. This brings me to my personal size planner, I use a Kate Spade Wellesley planner which can be bought at the Kate Spade Outlet stores (these outlets will ship to you so call around if you don't live close to one and are interested). Currently as pictured above I am using the red version which was re-released this Summer, and I also have a black version which is always in stock....

Blogtober Day 24! DIY Remove Black Stains from Hardwood Floors

This blog is coming to you by accident, of course. I don't know if I've mentioned it much on this blog, but I have two pitbulls. I know, a lot to handle, and one of them is a puppy. She is horrible sometimes, but I can't help but love her. Our whole house is hardwood floors, which I love! With my two dogs, if the happen to have an accident it's really easy to clean up...or so I thought.  We have had a large living room rug down for about 6 months now. Over the weekend we decided to take it outside and air it out and do a little "Fall Cleaning". Low and behold underneath the rug were huge dark black spots on the hardwood. I immediately jumped on Pinterest to see what to do. It turns out dogs urine causes the wood to turn black (who knew?). So I found a solution that I'm really excited to share with you.  Peroxide! Awesome, I had plenty on hand and immediately started to try it out. At first I used a paint brush to apply it to the specific areas.  Almo...

DIY IKEA Kitchen Shelf

It is finally complete! I have been working on decorating this bad boy for a few weeks now and I'm in love! Thanks to my dear husband we were able to turn this cheap IKEA shelving unit into an adorable farmhouse style kitchen shelf pretty easily. See below for our step by step!    This is the IKEA Mulig Shelving Unit which is $59.99 for the largest size. This measures 47 1/4x13 3/8x63 3/4 "    We purchased a 3/4" piece of plywood at Home Depot in which we got cut in store for each shelf. These measure 46 1/2" by 13"    Also at a Home Depot we purchased a tube of Loctite Power Grip and a small can of Golden Pecan stain . This stain matches a few other items in our house so they would all look cohesive.    Once home, let the staining begin.      After one coat of stain was dry we used the Loctite to place the plywood on the shelves...
