BATTLE! Ipsy VS Birchbox September

Another month another subscription box. Am I over it yet? A little, but I keep trying for the best. I learned this month that quite a few of my co-workers are subscribed to these boxes and that was kind of exciting. We compared, of course we're women.

Birchbox came first this month so lets get started.

First is a nail polish by the brand Ruffian in the shade Hedge Fund. It is a really pretty Fall color that is definitely "in" right now. I've never heard of the brand, but I do like the color so it's worth a try.

Next is the Caudalie Makeup Remover cleansing Water. This will probably get used, but I do wish I got something else from Caudalie. It's an "ehh" in my opinion.

For the 3rd month in a row (at least it seems that way) another hairspray. This month is Amika Bombshell Blowout Spray. It will get used, hairspray always does, but nothing too exciting.

Egyptian Magic Skin Cream, a giveaway for me. I probably wouldn't ever use this. I don't know anything about this brand so another "ehh" for me.

Last but not last, a BH Cosmetics sample set of eyeshadows. Mine was broken when I received my box this month, but either way, the colors don't really flow together. They are pretty, don't get me wrong, but I dislike these samples that can't be used together. I would have to pull more colors to make this a look and that just makes it inconvenient for me.

For Ipsy, I did have higher hopes and of course it came late.

The extra for this month was a new product by Michelle Phan. I haven't looked into this line very much yet, but I received a cheek color and 3 eyeshadows. I believe there are 4 different choices and mine was a natural choice.

I got a full size Starlooks eyeshadow. I'm not sure of the actual name, but it's black. I swatched it on my hand and it was not creamy, but it was definitely black.

I was most excited about the Butter London nail polish. I have never tried this brand. I just can't justify $15 for a nail polish. received LA Moss and it's pretty. I will try it out and see if they are worth the price. This is a mini size, but I'm ok with that, because I do have a lot of nail polish.

A tinted lip balm by Cailyn in the shade Big Apple. This packaging is ridiculous. I don't really know about it yet. It's a bright red even when swatched, but it's pretty obscene packaging.

A full size NYX eyeshadow in the shade Cryptonite. I'm happy I got a black, because it can be used, but nothing spectacular.

Lastly, is a mascara called It's So Big. I haven't opened this product because I don't want to waste it, but mascara is always useful.

Overall, if I had to choose a favorite it would be Ipsy, but neither box really got me too excited. Both nail polishes will get used for sure, but overall everything else is nothing special. Come on boxes. Make me excited again!

Personal Planner Setup

I have been using a planner for as long as I can remember. My little OCD self needs something to keep me grounded and on track. About 3 years ago I discovered Erin Condren as well as the planner community on social media (if you are a planner person check them out, it is such a positive and supportive group of people). If you're not familiar, the Erin Condren Life Planner is an A5 size planner (7" by 9") and is a thick planner. For me, this type of planner is not convenient for every day use so this planner stays at home on my desk and is used mostly for my creative side, not functionality. This brings me to my personal size planner, I use a Kate Spade Wellesley planner which can be bought at the Kate Spade Outlet stores (these outlets will ship to you so call around if you don't live close to one and are interested). Currently as pictured above I am using the red version which was re-released this Summer, and I also have a black version which is always in stock....

Blogtober Day 24! DIY Remove Black Stains from Hardwood Floors

This blog is coming to you by accident, of course. I don't know if I've mentioned it much on this blog, but I have two pitbulls. I know, a lot to handle, and one of them is a puppy. She is horrible sometimes, but I can't help but love her. Our whole house is hardwood floors, which I love! With my two dogs, if the happen to have an accident it's really easy to clean up...or so I thought. We have had a large living room rug down for about 6 months now. Over the weekend we decided to take it outside and air it out and do a little "Fall Cleaning". Low and behold underneath the rug were huge dark black spots on the hardwood. I immediately jumped on Pinterest to see what to do. It turns out dogs urine causes the wood to turn black (who knew?). So I found a solution that I'm really excited to share with you. Peroxide! DIY IKEA Kitchen Shelf

It is finally complete! I have been working on decorating this bad boy for a few weeks now and I'm in love! Thanks to my dear husband we were able to turn this cheap IKEA shelving unit into an adorable farmhouse style kitchen shelf pretty easily. See below for our step by step! This is the IKEA Mulig Shelving Unit which is $59.99 for the largest size. This measures 47 1/4x13 3/8x63 3/4 " We purchased a 3/4" piece of plywood at Home Depot in which we got cut in store for each shelf. These measure 46 1/2" by 13" Also at a Home Depot we purchased a tube of Loctite Power Grip and a small can of Golden Pecan stain . This stain matches a few other items in our house so they would all look cohesive. Once home, let the staining begin. After one coat of stain was dry we used the Loctite to place the plywood on the shelves...
