BATTLE! November Ipsy vs Birchbox

The time has come the walrus said...and that's all I know. Another month, another subscription box. Who will be the winner this time?

Let's start with Ipsy, first off, I hate the makeup bag. Not really a surprise for me, because there have been few that I've really liked. I'll be passing this one up for my purse the month.

The first thing I reached for was a double pair of kiss eyelashes. These are pretty cool, and probably at least $8 on their own, so good job Ipsy. The winner for me was the included applicator, can't ever go wrong with these. Hopefully it's a good quality pair!

Next is a Nailtini polish in the shade Caviar Cocktail. Really nothing too exciting for this polish, in my opinion of course, I wish it was something a little different. I have too many grey polishes.

Next is a lipstick from Be a Bombshell. I don't know the name, but it is a wearable red/pink color. It seems matte as well which is always a plus.

The next product is from Em Cosmetics and it is a Waterliner in the shade Amazing Silver (I'm pretty sure, don't quote me on that). I can't say I'm excited about this either, if it was black, I'd definitely wear it, but it probably won't get too much use by me, unfortunately, because I am curious about this line. I would have loved the mascara!

Another brand I haven't tried much from is Pixi and this is a Bronzer in the shade Subtly Suntouched. I wouldn't say this is a Bronzer, it's far too light, but maybe a Dummer blush? I'm not counting it out just yet.

...and my winner of the month is the full size Starlooks eyeliner in the shade Amethyst. It's a shimmering purple color, which I have nothing like. It's interesting, and definitely not an every day color, I will use it though. Very impressed.

Now moving on to Birchbox.

A deluxe sample of Beauty Protector Shampoo and Conditioner which retail for $21.95 each for full size. I haven't tried these, so I can't give much of a review, but shampoo and conditioner never go to waste in this house.

My next item is a Color Club nail polish in the shade On the Rocks. Another slight disappointment for me, I would have loved a different shade. I will say that these polishes are very impressive though and they retail for $8 full size.

The most exciting sample for me is the Dr. Jart BB Cream. I've heard great things about this, and it was in my list of want to try products, so yay! Full size retails for $32. My only con so far is that  I can't seem to find a shade on the packaging, does it only come in one color?

Lastly is a perfume sample by Juicy Couture in their new scent Viva La Juicy Noir. It smells great, but I hate these little perfume samples...such a waste. They rarely get reached for by me.

Also, there was a Ghiradelli bar as well, but as you can see, it's gone. Delicious.

...and drumroll please...and the winner is...

IPSY!!! I feel like I will use the Birchbox samples more, but I was more excited about Ipsy. The products were a little more unusual, and as always they are bigger samples. Both were pretty good boxes this month though, I do admit.

What did you guys get in your subscription boxes?

Blogtober Day 24! DIY Remove Black Stains from Hardwood Floors

This blog is coming to you by accident, of course. I don't know if I've mentioned it much on this blog, but I have two pitbulls. I know, a lot to handle, and one of them is a puppy. She is horrible sometimes, but I can't help but love her. Our whole house is hardwood floors, which I love! With my two dogs, if the happen to have an accident it's really easy to clean up...or so I thought.  We have had a large living room rug down for about 6 months now. Over the weekend we decided to take it outside and air it out and do a little "Fall Cleaning". Low and behold underneath the rug were huge dark black spots on the hardwood. I immediately jumped on Pinterest to see what to do. It turns out dogs urine causes the wood to turn black (who knew?). So I found a solution that I'm really excited to share with you.  Peroxide! Awesome, I had plenty on hand and immediately started to try it out. At first I used a paint brush to apply it to the specific areas.  Almo

Personal Planner Setup

I have been using a planner for as long as I can remember. My little OCD self needs something to keep me grounded and on track. About 3 years ago I discovered Erin Condren as well as the planner community on social media (if you are a planner person check them out, it is such a positive and supportive group of people). If you're not familiar, the Erin Condren Life Planner is an A5 size planner (7" by 9") and is a thick planner. For me, this type of planner is not convenient for every day use so this planner stays at home on my desk and is used mostly for my creative side, not functionality. This brings me to my personal size planner, I use a Kate Spade Wellesley planner which can be bought at the Kate Spade Outlet stores (these outlets will ship to you so call around if you don't live close to one and are interested). Currently as pictured above I am using the red version which was re-released this Summer, and I also have a black version which is always in stock.

DIY IKEA Kitchen Shelf

It is finally complete! I have been working on decorating this bad boy for a few weeks now and I'm in love! Thanks to my dear husband we were able to turn this cheap IKEA shelving unit into an adorable farmhouse style kitchen shelf pretty easily. See below for our step by step!    This is the IKEA Mulig Shelving Unit which is $59.99 for the largest size. This measures 47 1/4x13 3/8x63 3/4 "    We purchased a 3/4" piece of plywood at Home Depot in which we got cut in store for each shelf. These measure 46 1/2" by 13"    Also at a Home Depot we purchased a tube of Loctite Power Grip and a small can of Golden Pecan stain . This stain matches a few other items in our house so they would all look cohesive.    Once home, let the staining begin.      After one coat of stain was dry we used the Loctite to place the plywood on the shelves. We used sand bags to weigh down e
