I can't count on my fingers how many things MakeupByTiffanyD has made me jealous of, and the Prada Marfa sign she showed in her Home Decor posts is one of them. I searched it, and realized the price was very unrealistic for me, until I found a new YouTube named Bailey De Anna. I noticed a video, of how to make a DIY Prada Marfa sign. Score!
Supplies needed:
-Canvas (whatever size you prefer) mine is 18" by 24"
-Printer
-Black and White Paint
-Brushes
-Exacto knife
Now I couldn't have done this without my wonderful boyfriend. Thankfully for my crafty side, he is a graphic designer, and there are many projects I couldn't have done without him. We opened the original picture in Photoshop and he made opened it to scale. After that, we printed out each letter on a sheet of paper, and then the patience comes in.
After printing out your letters, take an Exacto knife, or razor blade, and start cutting out your letters. This is very time consuming, and I'm sorry I didn't take many pictures, but I did follow Bailey De Anna's video step by step, so I will link that below.
Once all of the letters are cut out, I placed them on the canvas to get the image right. After all of the letters were placed perfectly, I placed a piece of Scotch tape across the top of the letters to keep there positions. I then started tracing.
Once the words were traced, I started painting. This is where you will need a very thin tipped paint brush. I was angry at first, because I wasn't doing it perfectly, but I decided to give myself a break. Once all the letters were painted black, I took my white paint and fixed any mistakes I made around each letter.
And then, ta da. My own handcrafted Prada Marfa sign for $8. Can't beat that huh?
What do you think?
