This is a dirty job, but someone has to do it!
Washing your makeup brushes is one of the most important things to do for many reasons, and there are plenty of different methods of doing this. Here's my process!
I start out with a plate, Dawn Antibacterial Soap, and Extra Virgin Olive Oil. I used to use Baby Shampoo, but I realized the Antibacterial Soap is more sanitary (the baby shampoo is not antibacterial), although both products do get the job done for cleaning purposes. I place a small amount of each liquid on the plate and go from there.
I personally do not wet my brush before placing it into the liquid (this is just me, you can do either method that you prefer). I then swirl the brush into the two liquids while making small circles on the plate. As you can see, the products in your brush start to come.
I then add some water to the bristles of the brushes. Side note, the most important thing to remember when washing makeup brushes is that you do not want water going down into the handle of the brush. I always point my brushes down, and when I add water it only goes onto the bristles. After adding the water, I swirl the brush in the palm of my hand, continuing this process until the water washes clean and the color on my hand is a soap color with no product coming through. The second most important thing to remember, is however the bristles are shaped while wet is how they will dry. After you rinse the excess oil and soap from the brush, I then ring out any extra water and shape my brush correctly and lay them out to dry. I use a dry towel and lay them out as far apart as possible to give each individual brush the space to dry in the correct shape. Drying usually takes about a full day, I usually do this process in the afternoon and the next morning I test out the brushes my swirling them in the palm of hand to feel that the water is dry inside of the bristles.
This process is definitely time consuming, for me it usually takes about an hour, but it is mandatory. I do this process usually every two weeks. You can definitely do it more often, but I do have specific brushes for different colored products which lets me wait a little longer between washes.
Thank you guys so much for tuning in.
Please let me know if anyone has anything specific they would like me to talk about or review.
